I’m delighted to have translated the renowned long poem I Am an Ancient River (《我是一条古老的河流》) by Chinese poet Yuan Fan (远帆/一民). I also wrote an essay reflecting on the translation process, followed by a poem that arose from it. My thanks to editors Ross and Sara for publishing my essay and accompanying poem in The Transformation Review.
The editors commented: “Thanks again for this wonderful work. We both found the essay fascinating. We think the translation community will greatly benefit from the insights you have shared.”
This is also part of my Borderless Poetry Translation project, and I will continue working on further translations.
Warm congratulations to Louise Liu on her new book—grateful to have mentored her!
Thanks to the mentoring program of the Writers’ Union of Canada, I mentored Louise Liu in poetry translation last year. She found the process very helpful and asked me to continue guiding her new poetry translation manuscript. Yesterday, I was glad to receive the completed book, and I’m sharing a few pages here. Congratulations!
Good news of book review and new publications
how wonderful to read Renée M. Sgroi‘s review of my book, amazing to find another fine poet sees what I cannot see. She selected several poems echoing the ones liked by Dana Gioia. Blanks was accepted by Literary Review of Canada and The Rare Abalone was inspired by current US poet laureate Arthur Sze.
Another of my translations of Yan Li’s work has been showcased for National Translation Month
(my other translations of his work have appeared in Queen’s Quarterly Denver Quarterly @Modern Poetry in Translation, Live Encounters Poetry & Writing Cha: An Asian Literary Journal etc My thanks to the wonderful magazines and editors who made this possible!)
Thanks Waves (生活潮)for publishing my poem: 虚构, it is in prints in Taiwan
